Giant sized view link
Merry Christmas to you all!
Woot brought in 1200 hits the other day. Pretty Amazing! Thanks, Woot! Hopefully, a 10th will come back.
Also, Guinea Pig Theatre is taking this weekend off, and the following week will have an AMAZING guest artist. It'll be beyond awesome, I can assure you.

Shirt.woot.com
Your beloved leader of cavy thespians has been most honored by the deliciously awesome folks over at Shirt.woot.
They do a new shirt every day at a great price - it's an awesome opportunity for amateurs like myself to get some publicity (they linked to GPT!), and to get some much needed cash. It's too late to get it for Christmas I bet - but think about how snazzy you'll look for New Years!
$10 shirts are a deal, $10 shirts that are awesome are a great deal - and I have one up for sale over there.
It's a limited time offer!
Supporting woot (by buying my shirt) is supporting GPT!

Army of Darkness
Wife fell asleep long enough for me to throw out a hastily put together GPT.
I regret many things about it - I, clearly, would not be hired to make S-Mart's logo, and paper textures always look lame to me, but it needed texture of some sort to look like an advert, I think.
I do no regret the bottom left hand corner, at all.
Here is a larger version.
Again...hoping for something epic for Christmas, and will (maybe) take the rest of the year off.
Maybe.
Also - I'm getting printed on shirt.woot.com in the VERY near future, so keep an eye here for when it goes on sale.

Adaptation
Such a brilliant movie.
If you haven't seen the flick I can only imagine how disappointing this addition is.
If you have the seen the movie I hope you "get it" enough to keep it from sucking.
There should be more Kaufman films in the world.

GUEST ARTIST! DIRTY HARRY!
Super talented illustrator Tyler Garrison fills in this week on Guinea Pig Theatre to give me a much needed weekend off, and he totally nailed the spirit of GPT!
Look how totally fantastic it is!
Make sure you also check out his website which, also, has been added to my links.
PRETTY PLEASE, don't be afraid to leave a comment so our guest artist can glow in the warm embrace of your kindness!
(Also, unrelated to GPT I made a coloring book page for an upcoming Threadless Alumni project. I bet it would be okay to print it out and color it yourself, though.)

I Heart Huckabees
The movie decision was came to with help by the amazing Kayce (kayceislost over at threadless).
I forgot how good of a movie this is.
I would suspect I'm going to return to this to make a more stellar contribution.

The Alamo
Dear American Movie Channel (AMC),
Thank you for resolving an issue I had been having; What to do for the Thanksgiving Guinea Pig Theatre. What movie has Thanksgiving in it, or a great turkey scene? I just couldn't come up with anything epic enough.
But then came Sunday, in which no good television ever exists and wife forced me to watch Billy Bob Thornton in this truly dreadful movie.
But, a moment of magic.
Billy Bob Thornton (as Davy Crockett) proclaims in the midst of a (terrible) dramatic monologue (one of many, thank goodness), "YOU PASS THE TATERS and I PASS THEM RIGHT BACK."
Let me emphasize that line of dialogue took place in a film of Momemtous American HIstory by an American Legend.
Nothing speaks more to me of what Guinea Pig Theatre wishes for us all on this Thanksgiving Day; that someone dramatically refuses some mashed potatoes but not before giving a heartfelt and sentimental backdrop story for why.
Happy Thanksgiving!
-K
EDIT: Why didn't anyone tell me it was sized all wrong? click on the image to go to flickr to see it big and awesome.

Murder By Death
(Murder By Death: matt, adam, sarah, dagan)
Murder By Death is a super awesome band. I mean, totally Top Shelf.
If you're socially networked you can listen to some tracks here.
Word on the street is that they actually like Guinea Pig Theatre.
So I'm totally throwing out some return love - I made them a part of the troupe!
I'm also sending them a print of the Big Trouble in Little China episode of GPT. It's, supposedly, their favorite flick, and I'm happy to share it with them.
Seriously, go listen! NOW!
Also, to my design friends they have a contest going where you can do the cover art for their upcoming split 7" - you don't wins money, but you do wins free music.
I'm totally getting in on it. Information is on their front page, which you can link to above and in my links.

Can't Hardly Wait
Special K is the all time best.
I was watching just the Kenny segments, which I once watched with great amusement, but if you JUST watch the bits where he's trying to pick up girls at the party it's the most tragic shit ever.
"Can't Hardly Wait" is not just a 90s teen movie, it's also a kick-ass Replacements track.
Pretty much all the Replacement tracks are kick-ass, though.

John Carpenter's The Thing
Halloween is coming...
I really wanted to do The Thing, and I wanted to do something gory and epic, with monsters and dynamite, snow covered helicopters and crazy paranoia.
But this line of dialogue seemed the truest to what Guinea Pig Theatre is really about. Guinea Pigs saying movie lines that represent the heart of the film.
Or the part that makes me laugh the most.
Bramish is getting the original piece of art as part of his purchase of the Big Trouble In Little China print. I'm awesome like that.

Guinea Pig Theatre Posters Now For Sale
I just sent out the first GPT poster yesterday to our contest winner and I have to say, it's pretty sweet. It's 11x17 full color and very nice, printed on poster-quality paper - I'm going to be selling them for Ten Bucks a pop if you're interested.
You'll have, all at once, the entire Guinea Pig Theatre library, collected, to hang on your wall - and that's pretty sweet. I have to imagine that it's, at least, a very cool conversation piece. Email me, if you're interested at starr226(at)gmail.com.

woot shirt thing
I also have a shirt up for voting on shirt.woot.com (go here) though, I think you have to have bought something from woot to actually vote. It's a good one, though
Winner of 25th GPT Contest and POSTER!
Congratulations, Young Matt Leyen (Ninth Wheel over at Threadless), due to your Gods smiling upon you in a most fortuitous way, my wife pulled your name out of a hat of a dozen other names.
A DOZEN OTHER NAMES!
Clearly, overcoming such odds your luck will be blown for the rest of your life. Normally I would apologize for ruining your life fortune but you will be in a better place forever. You win this:
It's pretty epic.
I'm guessing.
I will know for sure when I see it printed.
It's 11x17.
That's decent size.
Maybe not big enough to never, ever, ever have a chance at breaking the lottery odds.
They will be for sale, of course.

Guinea Pig Fan Art!
Wednesday, September 24, 2008
I don't want you to become frenzied, but...
But this week will be the 25th Guinea Pig Theatre.
IT'S AN ANNIVERSARY!
You are all invited to take part in the celebration.
There will be punch and a delicious assortment of cookie treats.
For us adults there will be wine in a box.
I want to do some sort of contest.
I really do.
But I can't think of anything clever. So I came up with this lame idea:
Email me something nice, and sweet, and complimentary (or whatever) and what your favorite Guinea Pig Theatre has been to this date, and if you want what Guinea Pig Theatre you would like to see made.
I will take all three of those emails, put the name in a hat (probably a crocheted hat that someone lovingly made for me (that I haven't yet had time to photograph!) and whoever I pull out will be GREATLY REWARDED.
I'm thinking there's a very good chance you'll receive a copy of EVERY SINGLE GUINEA PIG THEATRE EVER MADE.
That's exciting, right?
that email is starr226 (at) gmail.com
and tell your friends to come to the party.
and to see what I have planned for the big day...maybe it's going to be epic.
Even I don't know!

As Good As It Gets
"Some have great stories, pretty stories that take place at lakes with boats and friends and noodle salad. Just no one in this car"
I love this flick, and fear that it may have become lost in the progression of time that's taken place since it's release.
Lots of great dialogue and actual character development!
I promise next week to do something with an explosion.

The Coen Brothers are running wild on GPT.
It's funny how I've actually efforted not doing certain directors over and over (I'm looking at you Wes Anderson - who was actually on the docket today) and still I end up with Four Guinea Pig Theatres by the Coens. BUT, to be fair, I've only done it three times (one of which will not show up on this blog due to shoddy work, imo), this fourth one is Andy's fault! The others can be found here and here
Barring a celebrity (or PAID) request that drives me towards the Coens in the near future, I promise to go at least 4 weeks without doing the Coens. So, let's hope that Big Lebowski doesn't come on TV this week. Or the Hudsucker Proxy. Or O' Brother.
I hope you enjoy! Still getting used to the new computer - and the scanner color settings are wonky, you can tell in the last two, but I sort of like it. It shows it's a new era.

E.T. & Shaft
This is my last week at my current job - which was the birthplace of Guinea Pig Theatre and it's production home, too. Tonight has been emotional, stressful, with opportunity to really pound out a great GPT with so many people flying around. This one's got pretty colors, though. Next GPT, hopefully, will be epic. Legendary, even.
Also, I've upgraded my home computer so fear of a GPT demise or hiatus isn't going to be an issue.
About my current job:
Before I started working at this job I hadn't efforted anything creative in eons - over the last four years I was introduced to Threadless and the internet t-shirt art world, became obsessed again with at least trying to draw something, anything, and to eventually waste a minute a week (1 minute, 6 seconds!) of my loyal readers time with the weekly GPT.
Four years ago I was just a dude that drank a lot, scamming bars for a little action.
Now I'm a dad and a husband with a vested interest in creating and doing something, even if it's just mildly entertaining - and that's thanks to this job.
Take care Old Job, I'll see you on the flip side.

Rocky Horror Picture Show
Wife's suggestion.
She was quite positive that a guinea pig in drag would be frickin' hilarious.
Is she right? She's almost always right in all things - so I'm expecting quite a response to this.
She also pointed out that I'm yet to do a movie that couldn't debatably be called Cult - the closest I've gotten to a "mainstream" film is Ghostbusters. I'm going to have to make an effort to do something big time. Dr. Strangelove gets pushed back yet another week, I suspect.
I'm completely under the weather, too.
::sniffles::

Vertigo
Better late than never!
By suggestion of my brother - I hope it's awesome enough to do justice to a magnificent film. I intentially tried a more cinematic approach and even tried my hand at that font that shows up so often through the film and on it's poster.
Hitchcock is easily one of my favorite directors of all time, though, tough to work into the GPT format, totally worth the challenge.

The Royal Tenenbaums
A rehash fill in as I go on a small vacation this weekend.
I'm actually working on a new GPT that simply isn't going to be finished tonight. My brother charged me with quite a difficult task as a GPT suggestion, and I don't think that I'm going to be able to rush it. Hopefully, I'll have a brand new GPT posted Monday night, but in the meantime here is, possibly, the most popular GPT I've done to this point, and maybe even my favorite in terms of dialogue pacing.
In good news, I got my new setup for my home office and the previous threat of a potential sabbatical from the strip isn't going to have to happen.

Pee Wee's Big Adventure
Due to technical difficulties* tonight's Guinea Pig Theatre is an older yet unpublished on this blog comic.
SORRY to anyone who has already seen this one.
I'm hoping that this is a temporary issue that will be resolved by Monday and I can post what I'm hoping is a super awesome (and BRAND SPANKING NEW!) GPT. ::Fingers crossed!::

Monster Squad plus (not) super extra!
I haven't watched Monster Squad in forever, so it was refreshing to check in on it, again.
I think my favorite scene is when the older brother from the Wonder Years is beating up The Fat Kid and lovable, streetsmart, super tough Rudy (played by Ryan Lambert of Kid's Incorporated fame) pulls up on his bicycle smoking a cigarette. I mean...his bicycle? Kelly Leak got a dirt bike! Come on, no one's really that cool on a bicycle.
(By the way, the guy who played Kelly Leak in the original Bad News Bears is playing Rorschach in the new Watchmen flick).
It's come to my attention that this movie is far less known than I would've thought - everyone of my approximate age I'm pretty sure remember it, but the next generation(s) don't - go rent it. It's fun, you'll like it.
I'm totally taking suggestions, btw. I'm having a pretty serious job change forthcoming and not only are my free hours going to change, but so is my access to quality computer equipment - which is terribly, terribly upsetting. So I'm trying to squeeze a lot of production in between here and then and will just hold them out as long as I can - and remember you can purchase prints and original art for practically nothing.
